KYB & Science Check

Due diligence process

Check proof of land ownership or lease

Projects must submit proof of their rights over the land (ownership or lease). Proof of rights over the land includes documents such as:

  • Public deed;

  • Purchase agreement; or

  • Registry excerpt.

Check of project owner's identity/incorporation

When the project is owned by a legal entity, projects are required to provide Coorest with proof of the incorporation or existence of such entity. Sufficient proof refers to documents such as:

  • Deed of incorporation;

  • Certificate of incorporation; or

  • Corporate registry excerpt.

When the project is owned by a natural person, sufficient proof of identity of such person includes documents such as:

  • Scanned passport copy;

  • Scanned local ID document copy; or

  • Scanned driver's license copy.

Check of representative's identity

When the project is owned by a legal entity, projects are required to submitt proof of identity of the entity's representative who will be signing the onboarding agreement. Sufficient proof of identity of the representative includes documents such as:

  • Scanned passport copy;

  • Scanned local ID document copy; or

  • Scanned driver's license copy.

Check of purchase of trees (optional)

Where a project still keeps evidence of the purchase of the trees (i.e., agreements, invoices) it is strongly advised that it submitts such evidence to Coorest, as this will facilitate the due diligence process.

Check of vegetation/tree pictures or videos

Projects are required to submit visual proof (i.e., photos, videos) of the existence of the plants included in the project. Projects must submit a minimum of two pictures or videos per plant species.

Additionality check

Projects are required to carry out additional activities as defined by the CCS. For such purposes, the Coorest Science team will determine whether the nature of the activities engaged in by the project results in additional CO2 being absorbed. For this, it is imperative that the trees were not planted before one and a half years in advance to the onboarding date, and that the land where such trees are located was not deforested in the prior five years.

Species Check

Projects in which additional activities consist of tree planting are required to plant tree species that are native to the area and non-invasive. This will be checked by the Coorest Science team.
